SSEK Lawyers to Speak at IBA Conference in Tokyo

Two lawyers from SSEK Legal Consultants, a full-service corporate and commercial law firm based in Jakarta, Indonesia, will feature in three working sessions at the upcoming Annual Conference of the International Bar Association (IBA) in Tokyo.

Rusmaini Lenggogeni, the managing partner of SSEK, will speak on Wednesday, October 22, on "Targeting the Asian Market: Setting Up or Taking Over a Sales and Distribution Network in Asia."

Western companies are pouring into the Asian market, including Indonesia, and this session will look at the best practices for sales and distribution Asia. Rusmaini will discuss the establishment of distribution networks in Indonesia, either by way of green-field investment or joint ventures.

Rusmaini specializes in corporate acquisitions and mergers, real property leases, construction and taxation. Her practice sees her advise multinational and domestic firms, with an emphasis on cross-border transactions. Rusmaini is recognized as one of Indonesia's leading practitioners in Corporate/M&A.

Douglas G. Smith, a foreign legal advisor at SSEK, will speak at two working sessions during the IBA conference. He will be part of a panel on Wednesday, October 22, on "The World Invests in Asia and Asia Invests in the World."

Foreign direct investment (FDI) into Asia is now about US$400 billion and Asian economies are predicted to triple from US$10 trillion to US$34 trillion in the next 10 years. This session will explore global FDI into Asia and Asia's FDI globally and the issues connected to cross-border FDI.

On Thursday, October 23, Douglas will be on a panel on "China: Dealing with Challenges," looking at the regulatory, business and cultural challenges to doing business with China. Topics to be discussed include trade, investment, arbitration and IP.
