SSEK Founding Partner Featured in Story on Senior Women Lawyers in Asia
24 May 2019

Ira A. Eddymurthy, a founding partner of SSEK Legal Consultants and one of Indonesia\'s leading corporate lawyers, is featured in Asia Business Law Journal\'s cover story on senior women lawyers in Asia.

With women increasingly making up the majority of new entrants within the legal profession in Asia, the cover story, \"Asian Mosaic,” lets senior women lawyers \"share personal stories of successes, struggles and strategies for a more inclusive legal profession.”

Ira discusses the prominent role of women in Indonesia\'s legal system. \"Men don’t control business law, commerce or the government in Indonesia,” she says. \"Women are well respected, and they have long established their role in the Indonesian legal community.”

She also praises the increasing presence of women in influential government roles in Indonesia. \"We have so many women at the ministerial level and under the president,” she says. \"Our finance minister, Sri Mulyani Indrawati, is incredible. Women are given a lot of opportunity, and seeing females assume such leadership positions inspires women to pursue a number of careers.”

Ira and Dyah Soewito, and two other women lawyers, established SSEK in 1992. Today, SSEK is one of the largest corporate law firms in Indonesia and is recognized as an industry leader across multiple practice areas.

Ira was a featured speaker at the 2017 US-Indonesia Women\'s CEO Summit in Washington, DC, which brought together C-Suite women from Indonesia and the United States for a "series of lively, open, and uniquely personal conversations on how they did it, how they do it and how they are planning for the future." Ira was named Woman Lawyer of the Year at the 2017 Asian Legal Business Indonesia Law Awards.

She is the acting chairwoman of the Commercial Law and Practice Commission of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) Indonesia.
