SSEK is founded by four women, including Dyah Soewito and Ira A. Eddymurthy, and moves into Mayapada Tower, in the heart of Jakarta’s business district.

SSEK’s senior foreign legal advisor, Darrell R. Johnson, is the founding member of the Board of Advisors and the principal coordinator of the Economic Law and Improved Procurement Systems (ELIPS) Project, Indonesia’s commercial law reform project from 1992-1998, at the time the largest single-country effort of its kind in the world.

Members of SSEK participate on the Board of Advisors of the ELIPS Project, helping to draft, finalize and socialize several laws, including the Company Law and the Fiducia Law.

During the Asian economic crisis, SSEK participates in the Initiative Group and contributes ideas on ways to deal with unsettled debt, including Indonesia’s new Bankruptcy Law.

SSEK advises several clients with assets held by the Indonesian Bank Restructuring Agency (IBRA).

SSEK celebrates its 10th anniversary at Gedung Arsip Jakarta (National Archives Building) with more than 1,000 guests.

SSEK founding partner Ira A. Eddymurthy represents Indonesia at the Inter-Pacific Bar Association, a role she holds through 2008.

SSEK appoints new partners for the first time, welcoming Rusmaini Lenggogeni, among others, to the firm’s partnership team, and defines SSEK as an open partnership.

Eight SSEK lawyers are recognized as Asialaw Leading Lawyers across 12 practice areas, illustrating excellence in capital markets, corporate finance, insurance, intellectual property, IT and telecommunications, labor and employment, mergers and acquisitions, project finance, property, restructuring and insolvency, shipping, and taxation.

Ira. A Eddymurthy speaks at the 15th annual Inter-Pacific Bar Association Conference in Bali, which is opened by Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.

SSEK is named Indonesia Law Firm of the Year by Who’s Who Legal, the official research partner of the International Bar Association. SSEK is the first Indonesian law firm to receive this recognition.

SSEK introduces three new partners, including Fitriana Mahiddin, and becomes the largest independent law firm in Indonesia.

SSEK holds a cocktail reception in Singapore to thank clients and international law firms for their support over the years. With more than 145 employees, SSEK continues to be the largest independent law firm in Indonesia.
